The children’s folk group Slniecko – The Little Sun – was established to provide opportunities for an encounter with the Slovak language to the children of Slovak families living in Calgary.
Through traditional songs, rhymes and simple dances, the members of Slniecko are given unique opportunities to learn and interact in their first language, while exploring rhythm and movement.
The songs and dances the children rehearse have strong ties to Slovak customs and traditions.
Slniecko showcases its repertoire during the annual Christmas concert. The children take part in traditional workshops throughout the year and participate in an annual singing contest, organized in spring.
Rehearsals are held on Mondays from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm in Silver Springs Community Association 5720 Silver Ridge Dr. NW, Calgary, AB T3B 5E5.
We welcome children with a keen interest in dancing and singing, with or without previous experience, from age 5 upward.
